ALPENA — One of two men allegedly involved in an armed home invasion on 2nd Avenue last week has been arrested.

Police arrested Allan Jerome Hughes Jr., 28, of Wyoming, Michigan on Tuesday in Scottsdale, Arizona after a weeklong search, the Alpena Police Department announced in a Wednesday press release.

Police said Hughes, along with a second suspect, entered a home on the 400 block of South 2nd Avenue around 2 a.m. on April 27 and demanded cash and other items from the male and female residents. When the victims were unable to comply with the demands, police said, the male victim was beaten on the head with a handgun.

The two suspects allegedly fled the scene in a gray passenger car, which was abandoned behind a residence near Decorative Panels Inc. as officers closed in. Police said the suspects fled on foot and evaded officers despite an intensive search of the area.

Police said they received information early in the investigation that Hughes had fled Alpena. With the help of numerous law enforcement agencies, police said, Hughes was located in Scottsdale and arrested without incident on Tuesday. His return to Michigan is being arranged.

The Alpena County Prosecutor’s office issued a seven-count felony warrant for Hughes’ arrest on Friday, including armed robbery, home invasion, unlawful imprisonment, assault with a dangerous weapon, and multiple weapons charges.

The investigation is ongoing and police are still seeking the second suspect, as well as those who may have aided them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Alpena Police Department at 989-354-1800.
