PREP ROUNDUP: Hillman wraps up Little Dipper baseball title

BASEBALL

Alpena splits with Petoskey

ALPENA–The Alpena baseball team split a pair of Big North Conference games with Petoskey on Tuesday, losing the opener 4-3 and winning the opener 9-6.

In the opener, Petoskey took control after a three-run third inning. The Northmen added a run in the fifth. Alpena scored once in the first, six, and seventh innings.

Alex Cadarette, Travis Weide and Noah Marquardt each had two hits for Alpena and Weide had two RBI and a home run. Weide took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks in six innings.

A six-run sixth inning tipped the scales in Alpena’s favor in the nightcap after a five-run second inning gave Petoskey an early lead.

Marquardt and Kadyn Budnick each had three hits and Weide, Matt Thompson and Cadarette each had two hits. Budnik, Thompson, Weide and Jake Zann each had two RBI.

Marquardt and Logan Momrik split pitching duties, combining for three strikeouts and five walks.

Hillman wraps up Little Dipper

The Hillman baseball team wrapped up the North Star League’s Little Dipper division title on Tuesday, topping Posen 16-4 and 29-7.

In the opener, Jaden Dove earned the win for Hillman (18-13-1, 8-0 NSL), allowing four runs (two earned) in five innings with five walks, five strikeouts and five hits.

At the plate for the Tigers, Dove was 3-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored; Sean Henigan was 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored; Brady Firman was 3-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and four RBI; Owen Moulton was 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI; AJ Jones was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI and Caleb Lively was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Joey Konieczny led Posen with two hits and Jack Romel, Ethan Romel and Konieczny each had an RBI.

In the second game, Aden Sobeck earned the win, allowing four runs (all earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks and three innings.

At the plate, Henigan was 3-for-3 with a double, triple, four RBI and four runs scored; Dove was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and three runs scored; Jones had a a hit and scored four runs; and Brady Firman was 2-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored.

Konieczny, Chase Dubie and Lucas Stone each had two hits for Posen and Dubie, Konieczny and Ethan Romel each had two RBI.

GIRLS SOCCER

TC Central 3, Alpena 2

The Alpena girls soccer team ended the regular season on a frustrating note, losing to Traverse City Central 3-2.

Alpena (3-16-1) held the lead until late in the game when the Trojans scored with about seven minutes left. Central then netted the game-winner with about 25 seconds left.

Reese Wisniewski and Kami Schultz both scored for Alpena and Jenna Leeck and Eve Dragiewicz each had an assist.

Alpena hosts Petokey in a district quarterfinal on Thursday at 6 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Alpena takes 2 from Petoskey

ALPENA–The Alpena softball team used big offensive innings to take a Big North Conference doubleheader from Petoskey on Tuesday, 14-4 and 12-7.

In the opener, Alpena (12-14) trailed 4-1 after 3 innings, but scored six runs in the fifth inning and seven more in the sixth to win.

In the nightcap, Alpena trailed 2-1 early, but scored six runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth.

Keely Dahl earned two wins for Alpena in the circle and Allie DeRocher and Emilee Modrzejewski.

Alpena plays at a tournament in Bay City on Saturday.

Posen topples Alanson

POSEN–The Posen softball team turned up the offense on Tuesday, beating Alanson 15-0 (four innings) and 25-4 (three innings).

In the opener, Posen (17-13) used back-to-back seven run innings to cruise to a win. Madison Kamyszek and Ava Wesner each had two hits for Posen and both of them also had three RBI. Abi Schellie added two RBI.

Makayla Kamyszek pitched a complete game, striking out seven, allowing no hits and no walks.

Posen scored 17 runs in the first inning of nightcap before going on to win. Wesner had three hits and four RBI; Madison Kamyszek had two hits and three RBI; Lizzy Romel had a hit and three RBI; Faith Cousins and Makayla Malenski each had three RBI and Schellie and Makayla Kamyszek each had two hits and two RBI.

Romel earned the win, striking out six, walking three and allowing one hit.

Hillman sweeps Sault

HILLMAN–The Hillman softball team took a pair of games from Sault Ste. Marie on Tuesday, beating the Blue Devils 6-4 and 18-3.

In the opener, Nicole Barbeau earned the win, striking out seven and pitching six innings.

At the plate, Barbeau was 2-for-3 for Hillman (17-15, 6-0 North Star League); Melanie Morrison was 2-for-2 with a solo home run and Jessica Jones and Kylee Green each went 2-for-3.

Barbeau earned the win in the second game too, fanning five in four innings.

At the plate, Barbeau was 4-for-4 with a grand slam; Cassidy Benac was 2-for-4; Morrison was 3-for-3 with a solo home run; Jones and Autumn Kazyaka were 2-for-4 and Green and Julia Taratuta were 3-for-4.
