PREP ROUNDUP: Alpena girls soccer team ties Trojans

GIRLS SOCCER

Alpena 2, TC Central 2

ALPENA — The Alpena girls soccer team rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit Thursday to tie the Trojans in a Big North Conference contest.

Nicole Johnson scored to make it 2-1 with 25 minutes left and Reese Wisniewski buried a penalty kick in the last two minutes to cement the tie.

Alpena (1-8-1, 0-4-1 BNC) had several chances in the first half and trailed at halftime, despite leading in shots, 4-2. Alpena pressed in the second half and ultimately tied the game.

Alpena hosts a tournament on Saturday.

Change made to Alpena tourney

ALPENA — Originally scheduled as a four-team round robin, Alpena’s softball tournament on Saturday will have three teams with four games played in the following order:

Grand Blanc vs. Garden City

Alpena vs. Garden City

Alpena vs. Grand Blanc

Alpena vs. Grand Blanc

Posen takes 2 from Atlanta

POSEN — The Posen softball team had plenty of offense on Thursday in 16-1 and 17-0 wins over Atlanta.

Faith Cousins had a three hits including a home run and five RBI for Posen and Ava Wesner, Lizzy Romel, Hailey Styma and Madison Kamyszek each had two hits. Makayla Kamyszek (3), Wesner (3), Madison Kamyszek (2), Romel (2), and Jocelyn Hincka each drove in runs; Cousins scored four runs and Hincka and Madison Kamyszek each scored three.

Makayla Kamyszek earned the win, allowing a run on one hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Romel pitched a shutout in the nightcap, striking out four, walking two and allowing one hit. She helped her cause with four hits and five RBI.

Cousins had three hits and Wesner and Hincka each had two; Makayla Kamyszek, Wesner, Hincka and Shelby Donajkowski each had two RBI.

Hillman splits with Oscoda

HILLMAN–The Hillman softball team split a pair of games with Oscoda on Thursday, winning 10-8 and losing 16-1.

In the opener, Nicole Barbeau earned the win for Hillman (9-8), walking five and striking out 13. She also helped her cause with a solo home run.

Melanie Morrison was 2-for-3 and Brook Bennett had a double.

In the nightcap, Julia Taratuta and Morrison shared pitching duties for the Tigers.

Morrison and Katelyn Kaster each went 1-for-1 and Cassidy Benac was 1-for-2.

BASEBALL

Atlanta tops Posen in twinbill

POSEN — Big offensive innings propelled the Atlanta baseball team to 15-6 and 16-6 wins over Posen on Thursday.

In the opener, Atlanta scored 10 runs in the sixth inning to pull away from the Vikings.

Dawson Currie, Jace Cheedie and Trace Juergens each had two hits for Atlanta and Cheedie had three RBI. Trenton Whitt and Cody Griffin combined to strike out 12.

Lucas Stone and Chase Dubie each had a hit for Posen.

Atlanta led 7-2 early in the nightcap and tacked on seven more runs in the fourth inning to take a 16-3 lead.

Juergens led Atlanta with two hits and had two RBI. He also pitched, allowing six runs (three earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

Posen scatted four hits and Stone and Ethan Romel each had an RBI.

GIRLS TENNIS

Petoskey 5, Alpena 3

The Alpena girls tennis team won three flights during a Big North Conference dual with Petoskey.

At one singles, Gywn DenBleyker won for Alpena 6-1, 6-1 and Madi Speaks won at three singles for the Wildcats, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. Alpena’s one doubles team of Tilly Williams and Amelia Berles also won, 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (10).
