PREP ROUNDUP: Alpena baseball, softball teams lose to Titans

SOFTBALL

Alpena drops 2 to West

TRAVERSE CITY–The Alpena softball team dropped a pair of Big North Conference games against Traverse City West on Tuesday, losing 5-0 and 3-2.

In the opener, Keely Dahl struck out seven in the first three innings for Alpena (5-8) and Elysa Kelley and Marah Wisniewski also saw time in the circle.

West scored a pair of runs in the fourth and added three in the fifth inning.

In the second game, West took an early 2-0 lead and Alpena answered with a pair of runs in the third. West scored the go-ahead run in the fourth. Alpena threatened in fifth inning, with runners on second and third, but couldn’t score the equalizer.

Kyra Lucas and Allie DeRocher each scored for Alpena.

Alpena hosts Gaylord on Thursday.

Tawas sweeps Hillman

TAWAS–The Hillman softball team dropped a pair of games to Tawas on Tuesday, losing to the Braves 14-1 and 14-5.

In the opener, Nicole Barbeau and Melanie Morrison shared pitching duties for Hillman (9-10); Julia Taratuta was 2-for-2 and Morrison had a double.

In the second game, Morrison and Taratuta split time in the circle. Barbeau was 3-for-4; Jessica Jones had a double and Saige Flaugher was 2-for-3.

Hillman plays at Atlanta on Thursday.

Alcona Drops pair to Oscoda

The Alcona softball team dropped a pair of games against Oscoda on Monday, losing 21-8 and 17-6.

BASEBALL

Alpena swept by TC West

TRAVERSE CITY–The Alpena baseball team had a rough day all around on Tuesday, losing to Traverse City, 8-0 and 19-0.

Alpena was held without a hit in the opener while West gradually added to an early 3-0 lead over the final four innings.

Alpena scored a run to open the second game, but West scored nine in the bottom of the first and added 10 more in the second.

Alex Cadarette had two hits for Alpena and Travis Weide had one. Noah Marquardt scored Alpena’s only run on an error.

Hillman tops Tawas

TAWAS–The Hillman baseball team won a pair of close games against Tawas on Tuesday, topping the Braves 4-3 and 4-1.

In the opener, Aden Sobeck threw six innings to earn the win, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

Sean Henigan had single and scored a run for Hillman; Trenton Taratuta had a single and scored a run as did Jeff Klein.

In the second game, Brady Firman earned the win, pitching three innings and allowing two hits with a strikeout and two walks.

Henigan had a double; Taratuta had a double and scored twice; AJ Jones had a single and scored a run; Firman was 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored a run; Sobeck had a double and an RBI and Owen Moulton had a single.

TRACK AND FIELD

Alcona wins NSL meet at Whittemore

WHITTEMORE– Alcona took top honors at a North Star League meet on Tuesday as the Tigers’ boys team finished with 175 points and the Alcona girls team finished with 134.

Winners for Alcona included:

BOYS

Gavin Walker in the 100 dash (11.86) and 200 dash (24.31); Jacob Sytek in the 400 dash (53.88); Carter Upper in the 1,600 run (5:27.40) and 3,200 run (15:51.18); Hunter Rigby in the 110 hurdles (19.44); Ashton Rigby in the 300 hurdles (54.48); the 400 relay team of Fallon Hux, Chris Barnes, Zach Stephenson and Hunter Rigby (50.50); the 800 relay team of Barnes, Walker, Sytek and Nick Rasmussen (1:38.32); the 1,600 relay team of Stephenson, Walker, Barnes, Sytek (4:35.21); Jakob Tanner in the discus (88-3 1/2); Hayden Johnston in the high jump (5-2); Stephenson in the pole vault (11-0) and Rasmussen (18-9).

GIRLS

Lily Bilbey in the 100 dash (12.74), 200 dash (26.85) and 400 dash (1:01.28); Caroline Forsythe in the 300 hurdles (57.48) and 100 hurdles (19.45); the 400 relay team of Alexis Anderson, Samantha Nordstrom, Delaney Forsythe and Alisa Reed (1:13.10); the 800 relay team of Reed, Forsythe, Kelsey Hansen and Emma Travis (2:11.72); Hansen in the shot put (33-0) and Brielle Keyser in the discus (102-9).

Rogers City’s Morgan Baller won the long jump (14-3 1/2) and 800 meters (2:48.12) and her teammate Nina Hansen won the 1,600 run (6:37.06) and 3,200 run (16:48.12).

JV BASEBALL

Alpena splits with TC West

ALPENA–The Alpena JV baseball team split a pair of games with Traverse City West on Tuesday, winning 8-5 and losing 6-4.

Alpena used a six-run third inning to take control of the opener. Tucker Bright and Brady Pagels each had two hits for Alpena and Bright had two RBI and scored twice.

Alpena held an early lead in the second game, 3-1, but West scored four runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead for good.

Gabe Glawe had two hits for Alpena and Kaleb Donajkowski and Caleb McEwen each had a hit; Donajkowski, Nick Lusardi and Glawe each had an RBI.
