POLICE BLOTTER: Montmorency County deputies respond to crash, fire, wild bunnies

May 17

12:02 p.m.: A large fire in another county had Vienna Fire Department assisting them with putting the fire out.

5:46 p.m.: Deputies responded to a welfare check in Hillman Township; female subject was found to be fine. Officers cleared without incident.

6:55 p.m.: Officers responded to a commercial alarm in Briley Township; building was found to be secure.

7:18 p.m.: Dispatch received a call about a deer/vehicle in Montmorency Township; Deputy responded and took report of the accident.

8:44 p.m.: A State Trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop in Hillman Township; the male subject fled and Deputies responded to assist the Trooper in locating the subject, investigation is ongoing.

May 18

11:25 a.m.: An erratic driver was called into dispatch; a deputy responded and initiated a traffic stop; the driver was found to be driving without insurance. Driver was issued a citation for no insurance.

11:26 a.m.: A welfare check was requested by another agency; the subject didn’t reside at the residence. The deputy cleared without incident.

7:17 p.m.: A DNR officer responded to a call about orphaned wild bunnies in Hillman Township; DNR will be taking the animals to a rehabilitation center.

7:41 p.m.: Deputies responded to a dispute in Albert Township; parties were separated. Deputies cleared without incident.

May 19

3:03 p.m.: A welfare check on a Montmorency Township resident was requested, deputies went to the residence; the subject was fine. Deputies cleared without incident.

May 20

10:17 a.m.: A resident of Briley Township called to report damage to their property; deputies responded to take the report.

4:57 p.m.: A 2 vehicle crash was reported in Loud Township; no injuries were reported. A deputy took the report.

May 21

12:01 p.m.: A civil dispute in Avery Township was resolved by law enforcement.

4:15 p.m.: Deputies on routine patrol in Albert Township initiated a traffic stop; the driver was found to be driving on a suspended license, had no security, and a warrant out of Montmorency County. She was arrested and lodged on the warrant.

6:08 p.m.: A ground fire that started to get out of control was reported to MCSO by a resident in Briley Township; Tri Township Fire responded along with an officer. The fire was extinguished and all units cleared without incident.

9:19 p.m.: A Deputy responded to a call about 2 male subjects in Albert Township riding jet skis; the Deputy located the jet skiers and they were advised to not ride their jet skis at night. Officer cleared without incident.

May 22

12:55 a.m.: While on routine patrol, a Deputy happened upon a driver who had hit 2 deer on M-33 North; officer took report. No one was injured in the deer/vehicle accident.

1:34 a.m.: Deputies responded to a verbal dispute in Briley Township; parties were separated for the evening and warned about disturbing the peace. Officers cleared without incident.

1:43 a.m.: A resident of the Village of Hillman called to report there were two males fighting in their neighbor’s driveway. The subjects left the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival. Later in the morning one of the male subjects contacted the sheriff’s department to report the incident, and advise he had an injury. Investigation is ongoing.

3:20 p.m.: While on routine patrol deputies initiated a traffic stop in Albert Township; the driver was found to be driving on a suspended license, he was cited and deputies cleared without incident.

4:55 p.m.: An Albert Township resident called to report ATVs driving too fast down their private road.

8:44 p.m.: Deputies responded to a call in Loud Township; a resident was firing a gun towards another resident’s house. Officers confiscated the gun and cleared without incident.

9:10 p.m.: A call came into the center about mud bog trucks racing in a field in Hillman Township and driving erratically on the main road; an officer responded but the complaint was unfounded.

9:27 p.m.: A resident in Montmorency Township called into dispatch about a band of people camping and tearing up the roads/trails in the area; DNR officer was advised.

May 23

4:25 a.m.: A Deputy responded to a suspicious person in Hillman Township on a motorized scooter; the officer searched the area and was unable to locate the subject.

2:30 p.m.: A call came into Dispatch center that there was a scammer who hacked into a resident of Albert Township’s computer and was advised by the bank to report it to the police. The complaint was taken and logged.

3 p.m.: A Deputy responded to a complaint about a suspicious person in Vienna Township; the officer was able to locate the vehicle the person was driving. But was unable to make contact with the subject as he had left the area.
