Local School Board ROUNDUP: Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District Board agrees to contract with community specialist

∫ The Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District Board agreed on Thursday to contract with Tracy Romel for the position of community/school engagement specialist. The position is largely funded using state grant dollars and requires the AMA ESD to pay 20% of matching funds.

Romel has eight years of experience in mental health services, including work as a behavioral health therapist through Alcona Health Center.

The board voted unanimously to adopt Pied Piper School’s extended learning plan, which would keep students attending school face-to-face through the end of the year. The state has required school boards to adopt a plan each month during the pandemic, detailing their educational plan for each month.

The AMA ESD board will next meet at 6 p.m. June 10. A public hearing for its 2021-2022 budget and tax levy request will also take place during that meeting at the educational service district’s Central Office building, 2118 U.S. 23 in Alpena.

∫ The Alpena Public Schools Board of Education will meet at 5:30 p.m. today via the online platform Zoom.us. The board will hear a presentation from Superintendent Dave Rabbideau and Alternative Choices for Educational Success Academy Director Laura Stibitz about the academy relocating to its own space in Alpena High School.

The board will also consider purchasing new math resources for second through fifth graders and consider a resolution of appreciation for those who are retiring from the district this year.
