SOFTBALL

Alcona takes 2 from Atlanta

LINCOLN — The Alcona softball team took a pair of games from Atlanta on Monday, 11-0 and 14-6.

In the opener, Alcona (5-3) scored four runs in the first inning and added on to its lead from there.

Liz Henderson and Makala Mendyka had three hits and three RBI each for Alcona and Sage Gauthier, Anna Loyer and Avery Wrobel each had two hits and Loyer and Miah Schopfer each had two RBI.

Alcona scored nine runs in the first inning of the nightcap to take control of the game. Rachel Layton had four hits to lead Alcona, including a double and a triple; Ashlyn Gordy, Wrobel and Schopfer each had three hits; Layton and Gordy each had three RBI.

Olivia Arnold led Atlanta with four hits.

Alpena goes 0-3 at Stars tourney

GRAND BLANC –The Wildcats went 0-3 during the Michigan Stars round robin tournament on Saturday.

Alpena lost to Allen Park 10-5 and then had 15-0 losses to both Walled Lake Northern and Jackson Northwest.

Alpena hosts Cadillac at 3 p.m. on Tuesday to open Big North Conference play.

Two combine for Posen no-hitter

PELLSTON — Makayla Kamyszek and Lizzy Romel combined to throw a no-hitter for Posen on Saturday during a 16-0 four-inning win over Ellsworth.

Kamyszek pitched one inning and Romel pitched three; together they struck out six and walked one.

Ava Wesner and Jocelyn Hincka each had three hits for the Vikings in the win and Faith Cousins had a home run and two RBI.

Posen lost its second game Saturday, 11-5, to Ellsworth. Posen trailed 6-4 after four innings, but Ellsworth put the game away with five runs in the last two innings.

Romel led Posen with two hits and Wesner had two RBI.

BASEBALL

Alcona wins home twinbill

LINCOLN — The Alcona baseball team improved to 4-2 on Monday with a pair of wins over Atlanta, 10-4 and 9-1 (three innings).

In the opener, Zach Stephenson got the win for Alcona, striking out five and allowing five hits, and Jakob Tanner got the save.

Michael Basner was 2-for-2 with two RBI for Alcona and Gavin Walker was 1-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.

In the second game, Walker earned the win, allowing one hit and striking out three.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

AC winning streak hits nine

LIVONIA — The Alpena Community College softball team pushed its winning streak to nine games on Sunday with 13-5 and 17-4 wins over Schoolcraft.

In the opener, ACC (17-18) scored six runs in the first inning and added five more in the fourth to keep the Ocelots at bay. Kayla Metty had three hits for ACC and Paige Wooden, Aubree Sheldon, Mollie Girard and Linnea Hentkowski each had two.

An 11-run fourth inning pushed ACC to another win in the nightcap. Sheldon had four hits; Brooke Ciarkowski had a home run among three hits; Wooden had three hits; Metty had two hits and Schultz had a home run among two hits. Metty, Schultz, Ciarkowski and Sheldon each had three RBI.
