Peterson to serve on state council
ALPENA — Alpena County Commissioner Bill Peterson was appointed this week by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to a newly formed Michigan Jail Reform Advisory Council. Peterson will serve alongside law enforcement officials, legislators, attorneys, medical officers, and other officials on the council, which will monitor and evaluate criminal justice legislation passed in recent months.
Peterson was previously tapped for the Michigan Task Force on Jail and Pretrial Incarceration, which made its final recommendations to the state in January 2020. He learned of his appointment to the new council on Tuesday.
