Alpena
The Alpena Municipal Council approved a contract with Donald Gilmet of Gilmet Construction Services. It also approved a budget amendment request to increase the capital vehicles account for the installation of specialized equipment for a police patrol vehicle in the amount of $11,751.
It also approved a pair of events for this year. Art on the Bay is to be held July 14-18 and the 150th Anniversary Celebration Block Party to be held at St.
Paul Lutheran Church on June 20.
Council went into closed session, but no action was taken when the open session resumed.
Alpena Township
The Alpena Township Board of Trustees received an economic development report from Mike Mahler, economic development director for Target Alpena. He informed the board on current and upcoming projects in the community.
The board voted to deny a request from South Bay for $1,782 for the purchase of the MDOT approved directional signs at South Partridge Point Road. The board believed the group should be able to raise the money another way. The project is not budgeted for.
Fire Chief Dave Robbins informed the trustees that there were a total of 53 call outs of the south station in March. He advised that new hire Matt Benedict would begin full time on April 19, while Luke Meissner, who was recently hired, was doing well in his new role . An additional five candidates are being scheduled for interviews, Robbins said.
Alpena Fire Chief Bill Forbush updated the board with a power point presentation entitled Northside Fire Project and informed that there had been 149 EMS runs since January 1 and four fire responses. Deputy Chief Rob Edmonds explained the city's training initiatives, and Captain Andy Marceau explained his role as the Community Risk Reduction officer.
The trustees went into closed session to discuss the ongoing water litigation with Alpena, but no action was taken when open session resumed.
Lincoln
The Lincoln Village Council received a report from Mike Serafin for the fire department report, who also announced he is resigning. He will send his letter of resignation to the president. Serafin said his age is a factor in his decision to step down and that Billy Cordes will step in as the new chief on May 3. Brian Renchenski will be the assistant chief. Mike will be staying with the department to help with the transition.
Maintenance man Warren MacNeill told the council picnic tables are being placed around town and parks are getting cleaned up. Winter damage to roadways is being cleaned up, he said.
