ALPENA–After a solid season under first-year coach Matt Kowalski, the Alpena High wrestling team had four wrestlers recently honored by the Big North Conference.

Austin Bush, Declan Genova and Cameron Kubbe all earned first team all-conference honors and Mason Bray was named to the second team.

Bush (125 pounds), Genova (145) and Bray (160) all qualified for the Division 2 state finals, giving Alpena representation in the finals for the first time since 2014.

Bush won a district championship and finished second at regionals before going on to the finals. He went 1-1 at the finals, winning his first match in a 9-2 decision before having to withdraw due to injury.

Genova won a district title as well and took second at regionals. At the finals, Genova won his second match in a 9-2 decision before being pinned in his final match.

Bray battled his way to the state finals, finishing fourth at districts and then winding his way through the consolation bracket at regionals to punch his finals ticket, punctuating his successful day with a pinfall win.

Kubbe (285) finished second at districts and won at least 16 matches on the season.
