Water rains down as firefighters douse a house fire at the intersection of M-32 and Green Road in Alpena County around noon on Tuesday. All residents and a family pet escaped uninjured after the fire started in a clean chimney, according to the homeowner. Firefighters had to pull down a ceiling in the ranch-style home because the fire was trapped in a small space under the roof, according to Tim Wade, assistant fire chief for Green Township Fire Department. After the fire was extinguished, responders helped the homeowner gather a bag of family treasures to save from the house, and one firefighter pulled a family photo off the wall and brought it to the homeowner. "This is what we do," Wade said. "It makes them feel a little better." Firefighters from Wilson and Long Rapids fire departments also responded.
