ALPENA — Public health officials on Thursdayreported four newly infected or probably infected Northeast Michiganders, including three Presque Isle County residents and one Montmorency County resident.

No new infections were reported for Alpena County and Alcona County residents.

As of Feb. 18, local public health agencies have reported confirmed and suspected infections as one number.

Based on that data, 3,017 Northeast Michiganders have been confirmed or suspected infected since the pandemic hit Michigan in mid-March. Of those, 105 have died.

Meanwhile Alcona Community Schools Superintendent Dan O’Connor notified parents in a letter Thursday of a confirmed COVID-19 case at Alcona High School. O’Connor said close contacts have been notified and will quarantine until March 29.

Health care privacy laws prevent administrators from releasing any information that could identify the infected individual, O’Connor said.

He said the district is collaborating with District Health Department No. 2 to ensure students are protected and the district will proceed with academic and extracurricular programming.

Parents should continue to monitor their child or children for the onset of symptoms related to COVID-19, he said.

State data showed that, as of Wednesday, 29,727 doses of coronavirus vaccine had been administered in Northeast Michigan.

As of Thursday, no one was hospitalized at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena with coronavirus infection, including in intensive care, according to state data. The hospital was 45% full.

As of Thursday, 42 people were hospitalized with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 infection across the state-designated, 18-county health care region that includes Alpena, Presque Isle, and Montmorency counties, according to state data.

The last death was reported on March 10.

Local public health officials have stopped tracking recoveries.
