Virus remakes jury box at courthouse

News Photo by Julie Riddle Judge Ed Black, left, on Wednesday explains the plans for the jury box in Alpena’s 26th Circuit Court courtroom after the box’s usual sturdy wooden chairs were removed. New chairs and plastic dividers are on their way, to be used to enable COVID-19-consious jury trials as soon as infection rates fall and restrictions are lifted, Black explained to attorney Bill Pfeifer. “We’re going to make sure jurors are comfortable and safe,” Black told Pfeifer, assuring him that, despite appearances, jurors would not have to stand through trials from now on.
