Firefighters respond to chimney fire

News Photo by Julie Riddle Firefighters extinguish smoldering debris from a fireplace after responding to a chimney fire at a South 2nd Avenue home in Alpena on Monday night. A neighbor knocked on the door and told the home’s residents there were fireworks flaring from the chimney, homeowner Rexann McConnell reported. “He was like, you’ve got something going on up there,” McConnell said. Firefighters arrived within minutes after McConnell called 911, and burning debris was removed via bucket and dumped on a front yard snow pile to be sprayed with a fire extinguisher. “Get your chimney cleaned,” said resident Michael Blewett. “We didn’t.”
