Firefighters receive instruction around a drop tank at the Alpena Fire Department on Monday. Accustomed to tackling fires in the city, where hydrants are plentiful, city firefighters need practice pulling water from non-pressurized sources to better respond to emergencies in Alpena Township, according to Rob Edmonds, training officer for the department. Other upcoming training sessions will help city firefighters brush up on ice rescue skills they are more likely to need while the city provides support at township fire stations while the township hires new staff, Edmonds said.
