1 more death, 3 more infected

ALPENA — One more Alpena County resident died after being infected with COVID-19, while only three more Northeast Michigan residents were reported infected today.

The death of an Alpena County resident brings to 94 the total number of Northeast Michiganders who have died after being infected.

Meanwhile, MidMichigan Health, the Midland-based owners of the Alpena hospital, announced today that patients eligible for the coronavirus vaccine can get on a waiting list to receive a vaccination once doses become available.

All three newly infected residents live in Presque Isle County, public health officials said today.

State data showed that, as of Wednesday, 7,605 doses of coronavirus vaccine had been administered in Northeast Michigan.

As of today, two people were hospitalized at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena with coronavirus infection, both in intensive care, according to state data. The hospital was 30% full.

As of today, 41 people were hospitalized with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 infection across the state-designated, 18-county health care region that includes Alpena, Presque Isle, and Montmorency counties, according to state data.

Since the pandemic hit Michigan in mid-March, 2,707 Northeast Michiganders have been infected, according to local public health agencies.

Local public health officials have stopped tracking recoveries.
