A winter storm watch is in effect for Northeast Michigan beginning this (Friday) evening through Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord.

Meteorologists say heavy snow is possible, with the potential for five to nine inches of total snowfall by Sunday morning. The worst conditions could occur midday Saturday to early Sunday morning.

Gusty winds are also expected and could reach speeds as high as 35 miles per hour, according to the weather alert, with blowing and drifting snow possible. Isolated power outages are possible and travel could be difficult throughout the storm.
