ALPENA — Alpena has lost another business, as the owners of Gen-Ar’s have announced the mom-and-pop-style restaurant is closing its doors indefinitely.

Co-owner Darryl Prevo broke the news to the community in a Facebook post, thanking the community for the support over three decades.

“With a heavy heart and sadness I announce that Gen-Ar’s is closing indefinitely,” Prevo said. “First and foremost, my family would like to thank all the wonderful people that have worked at Gen-Ar’s over the last 31years. Secondly, we would like to thank the thousands of customers that made Gen-Ar’s the great place it was. Stay safe, Thank you.”

Comments under Prevo’s post expressed sorrow about the closure and support for its owners and staff.

The business has been forced to close indoor dining twice because of the state restrictions to help control the spread of COVID-19. It also earlier this year voluntarily suspended operations for a couple days after an employee had had an exposure to someone with the disease.
