Drive-thru parade a go in Alpena

The Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce will host a drive-through parade at the Alpena County Fairgrounds from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11, the Chamber said in a news release.

Floats will line up while spectators drive through to view them. Police leaders were opposed to the idea over concerns about traffic and public health officials opposed over concerns about spreading the coronavirus. The city’s traditional annual holiday parade was canceled over virus concerns.

The Chamber said Santa Claus will be on the Northland Area Federal Credit Union float at the end of the lineup on Dec. 11, but other floats/displays are still wanted. Those interested in adding a float to the event must alert the Chamber by Wednesday. The Chamber asks that no more than 10 people be on each float/display at one time.
