Trees popping up downtown

News Photo by Julie Riddle Ken Bruski, foreman at PRATTScape Landscape and Design service, plants one of 21 crab apple trees the company is planting around downtown Alpena area today. The city-funded trees -- planted annually to replace those that haven’t thrived in their Up North homes -- beautify business and residential areas without encroaching on road space or blocking drivers’ visibility, Bruski said. The city commissioned 60-some trees to be planted last year. This week’s batch of trees is the first of 2020. Bruski is unsure if the city will request more plantings this year.
