Mother hides fugitive son, both arrested

A woman hiding her son from police was arrested when officers found him hiding in her Montmorency County home.
Elizabeth Marie Slater, 55, was charged with harboring a felon after police caught her son, Steven Mark Casebier, hiding in her Hillman home on Sept. 10, nearly two months after the Michigan State Police 7th District fugitive team asked for the public's help in finding Casebier.
Police looked for Casebier at Slater's home in early August, without finding him. At that time, police warned the mother she would be committing a crime and subject to penalty if she hid her son from them.
Casebier was wanted for larceny, fleeing and eluding, and assaulting a police officer.
Both Slater and her son were arrested and released on bond from the Montmorency County Jail.
