5 Northeast Michiganders were infected this week
ALPENA — In the past week, Northeast Michigan added five to its total number of residents who tested positive for coronavirus infection, including three residents of Alcona County and two of Alpena County.
Inaccurate numbers took the total number of infected Alpena County residents from 118 last weekend to 120 later in the week, then back to 118 after the error was detected.
Positive cases now total 179 for the region after one more Presque Isle County resident was reported infected on Friday.
At least one resident of every Northeast Michigan county recovered during the week, meaning 149 of 179 infected residents had recovered by Friday, up from 142 recoveries reported on Monday.
No new deaths were reported in the area this week.
Statewide, nearly 1,000 new positive tests were reported Friday. More than 6,500 Michiganders have died while infected with the coronavirus.
