ALPENA TOWNSHIP — Two bodies were found in a barn fire today on Long Lake Road.
Michigan State Police spokesman Derrick Carroll said late tonight police are waiting to identify the bodies and it was too early to say whether there was any foul play. The bodies were taken to Grand Rapids for an autopsy.
“It’s an ongoing investigation and they probably won’t know tonight exactly what happened,” he said. “They have to do autopsies and find out what is the cause of death.”

The Alpena Township Fire Department was dispatched to around 1:15 p.m. and arrived to find the barn fully engulfed in flames.
Alpena Township Fire Chief Dave Robbins said firefighters were initially told no people or animals were in the barn, but they learned on the scene that might not be the case.
The barn collapsed while firefighters were on-scene and crews worked to stop a nearby structure from catching fire.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
Robbins said late tonight the fire had been extinguished but crews remained on scene this evening to look for hotspots.
