Driver safe, bench, light down in 1-vehicle smashup
News Photo by Julie Riddle Michigan State Police troopers administer a sobriety check to a woman after the pickup truck she was driving left US-23 South near the Alpena Days Inn on Sunday evening, crashing through a fence before landing in the parking lot of a nearby church. Before reaching the fence, the truck crossed a sidewalk and took out a metal roadside bench and decorative lamp -- dragging the bench about 40 yards and the sizable lamp another 90 yards -- and partially leveled a bush, strewing car parts and pieces of glass in its wake. The driver, checked by medical personnel at the scene, was unhurt. The matter is still under investigation, according to police.
