Montmorency County to seek moth tax
The Montmorency County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday recommended ballot proposal language be drafted for a property tax to manage the gypsy moth, an invasive species whose caterpillars defoliate trees.
Voters will be asked to consider a 1-mill tax, which would cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $50 for one year only.
If passed by voters in November, it would raise an estimated $495,000.
