A first: Attorney sworn in via videoconference

New attorney Christine Burke took the lawyer’s oath in the Alpena courtroom, with her mother — Alpena attorney Denise Burke — at her side. Judge Ed Black, with whom the younger Burke interned for a year at the Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office, administered the oath. The new attorney, fresh out of law school, will work in Otsego County for legal aid, a nonprofit organization that provides legal assistance for low-income people.
