UPDATED: Alpena County woman who died was MediLodge patient

ALPENA — The Alpena County woman who is the region’s first death from COVID-19 was a patient at the MediLodge of Alpena, The News has learned.

The patient was the second confirmed case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, in a resident of the county, District Health Department No. 4 reported.

The Health Department also confirmed a second case of COVID-19 in Montmorency County.

The Health Department said an elderly woman was living in a long-term care facility in the area and died at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena. She tested positive for COVID-19 after her death.

The Health Department did not provide the name of the facility where the patient lived, but The News confirmed with the MediLodge of Alpena administrator that she was a patient there.

All residents and employees are being monitored for COVID-19 symptoms, the Health Department said.
