Coronavirus confirmed in state

Two Michigan residents have tested positive for the coronavirus, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced late Tuesday while declaring a state of emergency.

The two cases are in Oakland and Wayne counties, the governor said.

“We are taking every step we can to mitigate the spread of the virus and keep Michiganders safe,” Whitmer said in a statement.

The woman from Oakland County had recently traveled internationally, while the man from Wayne County had recently traveled domestically.

Health officials are working to identify anyone who may have come in contact with the individuals, the governor’s office said.

The state urges residents to wash their hands, avoid touching their face, and take other precautions to avoid spreading the disease.
