APS seeks school board applicants

ALPENA — Alpena Public Schools is seeking applications for a vacancy on its Board of Education after trustee Stephanie Shafto resigned because her day job as a nurse left too little time for board work amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Shafto’s resignation is effective today. A replacement will be appointed by the board to fill the position through Dec. 31. Voters will pick a replacement in November.

People can submit a letter listing their qualifications to board President Gordon Snow at the district office, 2373 Gordon Road. Letters will be accepted until 4 p.m. April 8.

The board will review submitted materials and will schedule interviews with selected candidates. The board can also choose not to interview all candidates.

Call Superintendent John VanWagoner at 989-358-5042 for more information.
