Woman dies after Monday crash

ALPENA — An 88-year-old Alpena woman died from injuries sustained in a car crash Monday on Genschaw Road near Princeton Avenue, according to the Michigan State Police- Alpena Post.

Martha M. Krajnik was on Monday transported to MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena, where she died shortly after arriving.

The crash occurred when a Chevy Trailblazer, driven by an 18-year-old Alpena woman, was traveling north on Genschaw Road and swerved into the southbound lane to avoid a Ford F-150 stopped in the roadway, waiting for another vehicle to turn. The trailblazer had minor contact with the Ford F-150 before colliding head on with a Toyota Prius that was traveling south on Genschaw Road.

Krajnik and two other passengers in the Toyota Prius were transported to the hospital for treatment. The drivers of the Chevy Trailblazer and Ford F-150 did not report any injuries at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Once the investigation is complete, the report will be forwarded to the Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call the MSP-Alpena Post at 989-354-4101.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
