A 21-year-old Spruce resident died in a two vehicle crash early Tuesday morning on F-41 north of Kings Corner Road. Cheynne Smith, who drove one of the vehicles in the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release from the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the second vehicle was transported by Alcona EMS to MidMichigan Medical Center Alpena and was treated for minor injuries.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, however, they believe weather and road conditions are a factor in the crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Deputies from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene to assist with the accident reconstruction investigation.

The Oscoda Township Police Department, Alcona County EMS, and Mikado Fire Department and first responders also assisted at the scene of the crash.
