Suspect in hit-and-run arrested

A woman who fled the scene of a crash was arrested Thursday afternoon in Alpena.

A two-car collision badly damaged a burgundy Jeep that had been travelling southbound on U.S.-23 at the intersection Golf Course Road.

The other car, a white Honda Accord, left the scene of the crash after failing to yield to traffic, leaving behind broken plastic pieces and a white piece of bumper.

According to witnesses, the white vehicle was smoking and limped along on at least one badly injured tire as it drove away. Sheriff’s deputies caught up with the driver about a mile north of the scene, where police say she was seen on foot near a nearby woods. In addition to causing the initial crash and leaving the scene, the woman was taken into custody and cited for driving with a suspended license-second offense, failing to transfer the vehicle’s title, and for unlawful use of a license plate.
