A man was arrested Thursday after talking to children at a bus stop in Alpena, the Alpena Police Department said in a news release.

Police were informed Wednesday that a man had approached several children as they waited for a bus on 1st Avenue near Hitchcock Street. The man reportedly offered the children a ride to school in his car, although he appeared to be on foot. The man left when the bus arrived, police said.

Alpena police, with the assistance of local businesses and Alpena Public Schools employees, identified and arrested a 37-year-old man, whom they did not name, on Thursday evening. He is lodged in the Alpena County Jail for attempted accosting of a child.

The investigation is ongoing and is under review by the Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office.
