Dogs died in Thursday house fire
ALPENA — No people were injured but two dogs died in a house fire reported just before 9 p.m. Thursday, the Alpena Fire Department said in a news release.
Firefighters responded to find the two-story home in the 500 block of West Miller Street engulfed and flames, with heat smoke and flames threatening neighboring structures. The fire was out before midnight, but the home sustained heavy damage and the vinyl siding of the neighboring structures also were damaged by smoke and heat, firefighters said.
The resident was not home at the time. The cause has not been determined.
