Snapchat leads to crash

A driver distracted by Snapchat and a long day's work toppled a telephone pole Tuesday night on Hubbard Lake Road.

The driver, a 24-year-old Hubbard Lake man, was cited for careless driving after he ran off the road into a ditch, smashing into a mailbox and snapping a utility pole in half, police said.

The man, who was not injured, admitted to looking at Snapchat notifications before the crash, and was also tired from a 13-hour shift, according to Michigan State Police.
