911 service repaired

ALPENA — Fiber optic lines damaged Sunday during the fire that destroyed the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and that temporarily forced Alpena 911 calls to be rerouted has been repaired, the county said in an overnight news release.

The cables were damaged during a 12-hour firefight at the corner of Chisholm Street and 5th Avenue that leveled the ReStore building. Emergency calls from Alpena County were rerouted to Roscommon County and then sent back to Alpena.

Residents’ ability to call 911 was not disrupted, officials said Sunday.

But the lines have been repaired and full 911 service is restored, Alpena County Central Dispatch said in its news release.
