Man arrested after 2-county police chase

An extensive, two-county police chase resulted in the arrest of a man wanted locally for concealed weapon, intoxicant, witness intimidation, and “flee and elude” charges.

On Wednesday, Alpena Police Department officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Jared Barnett, of Alpena, who abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot.

Coincidentally, K9 units in training at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center were nearby and were asked to assist in locating Barnett, who eluded capture by being picked up by his girlfriend. Shortly thereafter, the two once again abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot.

Officers of the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team set up surveillance on a residence in Montmorency County on Thursday and were able to arrest Barnett, who was in possession of suspected narcotics. Barnett was lodged in the Alpena County Jail.
