Disney comes to A-Town as Imagination Movers plan APlex visit

ALPENA — The popular Disney Channel and Emmy Award-winning act Imagination Movers are coming to Alpena for a free concert for the first 1,000 people who get tickets.

The entertainers will perform at the APlex, 701 Woodward Ave., from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 and is sure to draw many families and children who grew up with the group on their TV screens.

APlex manager Norm Sommerfeld said getting the group to Alpena was no easy task, and a little bit of luck was involved. He said it typically costs about $10,000 for the group to perform. But Sommerfeld reached out to the group’s management when he heard the stars were performing elsewhere in Michigan, and Sommerfeld was able to work out a lower price, since they were already going to be somewhat nearby.

Sommerfeld said sponsors quickly got on board to make the event happen and it was booked.

Sommerfeld said Imagination Movers will appeal to families who have small children and those who may have older children who grew up with the group’s TV shenanigans. Throughout the group’s show, the performers will share fun and unique ways to educate its audience.

“They teach kids to use their imagination to solve problems, which is something we need in this world,” Sommerfeld said. “This is a true family event. Sometimes, we have shows that are basically just for kids and some for only adults, but this is truly for the whole family and everyone will love it.”

The show is only a portion of the event, Sommerfeld said. He said there will be several bounce houses set up in the APlex and there will be free snacks and drinks, thanks to sponsors.

“We figured, if we were going to have the group here, let’s do something special,” he said. “There will be five bounce houses set up in the tennis center and free popcorn, cotton candy, and juice and water. It is one of these things where the whole community came together to make something great happen.”

The bounce houses will be open for play from noon until 1 p.m. and again after the show from 3 to 5 p.m.

Sommerfeld said capacity for the show is 1,000, and tickets are available at APlex now. He said people who would like to meet the group can do so for an add-on fee on the Imagination Movers website.

He said tickets could go quickly and urges people not to wait to get them.

“I have already had calls from as far away as Marquette and sent tickets to those people,” Sommerfeld said. “I expect there will be a lot of interest from people all over the area and tickets will go fast.”
