An elderly Alpena man reported missing on Tuesday as found safe outside Walmart, the Alpena Police Department said in a news release.

Social media posts by acquaintances of the 88-year-old generated promising tips after he was discovered missing around 2 p.m. Tuesday, the release said. Law enforcement contacted possible witnesses and searched the surrounding area, also calling in the Alpena County Search and Rescue unit for assistance.

With the help of a social media tip, the man was found by a deputy around 5:30 p.m., safely seated on a bench outside Walmart, police said.
