Fake $20 bills passed in Alpena

Three counterfeit $20 bills were passed at the Alpena Dollar General over the weekend, store employees said Tuesday.

Discovery of the homemade bills was made by the store’s bank upon deposit.

Police indicate that no other counterfeit bills have been reported, but an investigation is underway.

Businesses or individuals suspecting counterfeit currency should contact police.

A real $20 bill should have a numeral 20 in the lower right corner that changes colors when tilted, a watermark to the right of President Andrew Jackson’s face, a security thread that reads USA TWENTY to Jackson’s left, and a slight roughness on the president’s collar.
