State offers safety grants for small

employers

Businesses with 250 or fewer employees can apply for up to $5,000 in grants for workplace safety, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration said in a news release.

Employers can purchase safety and health-related equipment or training through the Workplace Improvement to Safety and Health (MIWISH) grant program, MIOSHA said. Preference will be given to employers in high-hazard industries.

Employers must have a qualified safety professional or committee conduct an evaluation to justify the purchase, match dollars for the grant money, and must be able to complete the project for which they are seeking grant money.

MidMichigan Health picks up 2 awards

MidMichigan Health, the Midland-based hospital group that owns the Alpena hospital, has earned two Most Wired awards from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, the company said in a news release.

MidMichigan received the Most Wired Certified Level 7 Special Recognition, as well as the Most Wired Certified Level 8 Quality Award, according to the release. The awards are based on how well health care firms use technology in clinical and business settings.

“The future of health care is evolving at a rapid pace and information technology needs to be in front of those changes,” Dan Waltz, chief information officer at MidMichigan Health, said in a statement. “The more effective we can be when it comes to implementing new programs and services for our patients helps us be more effective in the care we provide.”
