A 73-year-old man and 49-year-old woman were taken to MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena with minor injuries after a three-car crash Wednesday that caused one car to roll onto its side.

The News reported the crash Thursday, but police only released details Thursday afternoon.

Police said the crash happened shortly after noon when the black pickup driven by the 73-year-old was traveling southbound on Ripley Boulevard and ran a red light. The pickup was struck by a sports-utility vehicle driven by the 49-year-old, headed east on South 3rd Avenue. The pickup rolled onto its side and struck a second pickup that was in the left-turn lane of northbound Ripley.

The driver of that second pickup and a 17-year-old passenger in the SUV were not injured.

The 73-year-old was cited for running a red light.
