A car crash that sent one to the hospital blocks the intersection of Third Avenue and Ripley Boulevard Thursday afternoon after a black Silverado ran a red light while southbound on Ripley, striking a red sedan as it was attempting to cross east on Third. The driver of the sedan was transported to MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena with non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and had to be towed. Alpena Police Department and Alpena Fire Department responded. Another two-vehicle crash earlier Thursday at the intersection of Golf Course Road and U.S.-23 North sent one to the hospital. A Jeep Cherokee was hit on the driver’s side door by a Pontiac Grand Am, causing airbag deployment in both vehicles. All four people involved in the crash initially refused treatment, but one woman later changed her mind and requested medical transport.
