Police: Alcohol contributed to fatal crash

ALPENA TOWNSHIP — Alcohol is believed to have contributed to a crash that claimed the life of a 27-year-old woman early Monday, the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Police were called shortly after midnight Monday to the 3500 block of Lay Road for a crash involving a utility task vehicle, or UTV, which is similar to an all-terrain vehicle. The woman was found dead from the UTV rolling over, the release said.

While the Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the deceased, Bannan Funeral Home on Tuesday published an obituary for a 27-year-old Haley Renae Daoust, of Alpena, saying she died “as the result of an off-road vehicle accident.”

Further details were not released. The crash remains under investigation.

The Michigan State Police-Alpena Post, Alpena Township Fire Department, and the Alpena ambulance assisted at the scene.
