ALPENA — The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazards statement for Lake Huron Beaches in Northeast Michigan.

Because of gusty southwest winds throughout the day, the Weather Service is warning of dangerous waves and currents until 7 p.m.

The Weather Service encourages residents to stay out of the water and away from dangerous areas such as piers and breakwalls.
