Brooke Becker, 11, Evan Schee, 10, and Joshua Kleve, 13, all of Alpena, escape the 86-degree heat Tuesday afternoon by joining a swimming and sunbathing crowd at Starlite Beach in Alpena. The trio was making their second attempt at fortifying a skilfully dug pit with a sand wall strong enough to withstand the waves that cooled the youth’s feet.
