No one hurt in small fire at Lafarge

Nobody was hurt when a rubber conveyor belt caught on fire at the Lafarge North America plant in Alpena Thursday morning, according to Plant Manager Michael Nixon.

The fire was detected quickly by nearby employees, who saw smoke and alerted management. Once workers were moved away from the machinery, the Alpena Fire Department was called, arriving quickly and extinguishing the fire within 10 minutes.

A Lafarge water truck was used to keep the fire under control until the fire department arrived. The minimal damage to equipment is not expected to affect the plant’s operations.
