Eighth drunk driving arrest for man on ATV

An intoxicated driver of an all-terrain vehicle was arrested early Sunday and may be facing his eighth operating while intoxicated conviction, according to a Michigan State Police press release.

MSP troopers from the Alpena Post witnessed the man climbing onto the ATV showing signs of intoxication. The man drove off and the troopers lost sight of him, but after a search spotted him lying on the front porch of a nearby residence, with the ATV parked nearby. The man, identified as 46-year-old Elliot Betterly of Alpena, was found to be on felony probation with seven previous OWI-related convictions. He was determined to be intoxicated and without a valid license.

Betterly was issued a felony warrant charged with OWI, driving while license suspended, and habitual offender and was arraigned Wednesday in the 88th District Court, where the judge assessed a $25,000/10% bond.
