DPI employees reported ‘incoming gunfire’

ALPENA — Employees working on the roof at Decorative Panel International reported “incoming gunfire” Sunday afternoon, the Alpena Police Department said in a news release.

No one was injured, but employees conducting maintenance on the roof were forced to scramble for cover, police said. Police assisted some employees who had remained on the roof.

Police surrounded a suspect’s home in the 600 block of Ford Avenue, “but attempts to contact the subject went unanswered,” police said. The subject, a 58-year-old Alpena resident, suddenly exited the front door at about 9 p.m. He was lodged at the Alpena County Jail. Police did not release his name.

The incident remains under investigation.

APD was assisted by the Alpena County Sheriff’s Department, the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team, the Alpena Fire Department, the Michigan State Police-Alpena Post, and the Michigan State Police Emergency Services Team.

“Further, we wish to thank the public for their cooperation and assistance,” police said in the news release.
