An Alpena male was transported first to the hospital and then to the county jail after his vehicle crashed in the early morning hours Tuesday.

Alpena Police Department officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash about 2:15 a.m. Tuesday. A mid-sized sport-utility vehicle had struck a utility pole before coming to rest against the garage of a nearby residence near the intersection of River Street and 14th Avenue in Alpena. The driver, 26, was transported to the MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena for minor injuries.

Once he was cleared by hospital personnel, the man was taken into custody for operating while intoxicated and lodged at the Alpena County Jail.

APD was assisted by Michigan State Police and the Alpena City Fire Department.
